Matheus Cunha slapped with ban and huge fine for role in ugly Ipswich spat

WOLVES’ star forward Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two games and fined a whopping £80,000 by the FA.

The Brazilian was charged with misconduct and acting in an improper manner after the final whistle, following Wolves’ 2-1 home defeat by Ipswich Town on December 14.

Cunha became involved in an ugly spat with an Ipswich member of staff on the pitch as tensions reached boiling point.

The Wolves star admitted the charge and an independent Regulatory Commission dished out the punishment and will publish full written reasons for the punishment in due course.

The ban will come as a massive blow to new boss Vitor Pereira who has turned Wolves season around.

He has guided the club to victories over Leicester City, Manchester United and a draw against Spurs since taking over at Molineux.

Cunha lost the plot after Jack Taylor scored with the last attack for Ipswich – a defeat which turned out to be Gary O’Neil’s final game in charge of Wolves.

The 25-year-old has been Wolves’ best player this season, scoring 10 goals and producing four assists in the Premier League.

Cunha will now miss Wolves Premier League game against Nottingham Forest on Monday and their FA Cup third round tie against Bristol City.
