A Bristol restaurant on the Christmas Steps is welcoming a guest chef from Chicago for its first pop-up of the year.
The Scrandit, a venue known for its pop-ups, supper clubs and events, announced that it would be welcoming Chicago-based Chanita Chayaluk, and welcoming back Barang London, for what is described as a ‘very special Thai/Cambodian collaboration between January 23-26.
In a post to its Instagram page, The Scrandit said: “A very warm welcome to 2025! First one back @barang_london X @chanitacooks. Chanita Chayaluk @chanitacooks will be joining @barang_london for this very special Thai/Cambodian collaboration from 23-26 January.
“Chanita is a Thai-American Chicago-based chef with a formal training in Thai cuisine. Her work ranges from vintage Thai recipes and regional cuisine to modern gastronomy.
“By now I’d hope Tom from @barang_london doesn’t need too much of an intro when he’s at The Scrandit and trust me his food does all the talking. He’s back in Bristol again fresh from two sell out pop ups in London at @mambow_ldn & @hillandszrok.
We’re very excited to be kicking of 2025 with this special collab. Walk ins as usual. Bookings for groups of 6+ only. Email or dm to enquire about large group bookings. Menu coming next week…”
The Scrandit, which was featured in a list of the 20 best restaurants in Bristol according to a feature by TimeOut a year ago, is described as a “cosy venue for exciting pop-ups, from street food novices to Masterchef finalists”, with regular pop-up names, as well as newcomers. You can find it at 14 Christmas Steps, Bristol, BS1 5BS.
