Pete Wicks has shockingly revealed that he received death threats in the aftermath of his high-profile break-up with his TOWIE ex girlfriend, Megan McKenna.
Chatting with Celeb’s Go Dating star Paul Brunson, the 37-year-old opened up on the troubling days and weeks that followed his break-up with the reality TV star: “It’s really hard when I look back on it to think about how bad it was because at the time you’re so caught up in it.
“I was getting death threats daily. I had people spit at me in the streets.”
Explaining the impact that the onslaught of abuse had on him, he added: “I felt like I was a national hate figure, like public enemy number one.”

Despite being bombarded with a torrent of ill-feeling, he explained that he could only think of Megan during that period: “All I was bothered about at the time was Megan, and the fact that I’d kind of lost Megan and that I’d upset her and I’d felt so guilty, so so guilty.”
Pete even admitted that it was as recently as his appearance on Strictly last year that he was subjected to even more death threats, adding: “I’ve just done Strictly, I was getting death threats through (my time on) Strictly for still being in the competition because there were better dancers leaving. And it does get to the point were yeah, of course, you’re putting yourself in the position for people to pass judgement, but I don’t think anyone really deserves death threats.”
Since their relationship came to an abrupt end eight years ago, the TOWIE stars have both seemingly found love again with Megan now a mother-of-one and fiancé to Scottish footballer Oliver Burke.
But, despite splitting just a couple of years before, Megan and Pete were reconnected again as they filmed Celeb’s Go Dating in 2019.
Meanwhile, Pete’s love life has been the subject of much speculation in recent months and it is widely reported that he is currently in a relationship with former Love Island and I’m A Celeb star Maura Higgins after the pair had reportedly been long-term friends.
And, talking about his feelings towards Maura on Paul Brunson’s podcast, he said: “Yeah, she’s a great person, so my relationship with her is that I think she’s a great person and I would hope that she thinks that I’m alright.”
