There is heavy traffic on the M5 after a crash and vehicle fire this morning, Wednesday, January 15. According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, there are delays of around 70 minutes heading northbound near Bristol. Queues have formed into Somerset.
Two lanes are currently shut near junction 17 for Cribbs Causeway and there are tailbacks to Portishead. The fire was first reported by Inrix at around 6.20am.
Inrix says: “M5 northbound exit slip road closed severe delays, two lanes closed due to vehicle fire at J17 A4018 (Cribbs Causeway). Congestion to all the way back to just past J19 (Portishead). Travel time is around 70 minutes.
“The road was blocked for around an hour but it has now been reopened, however two lanes remain closed on the main carriageway and the exit slip road at J17 is also closed.”
Earlier this morning, at about 5.30am, the motorway also saw a crash between two lorries and a car on the southbound carriageway, also at J18. Traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reported at 5.30am: “M5 southbound entry slip road from the Avonmouth Spur blocked due to accident at J18 M49. Approach with care. Attending to two lorries and a car.”
