The Yorkshire Vet star worried about couple’s marriage after dog swallowed racy item

Julian Norton feared he had “ended a couple’s marriage” after discovering a racy item their pet dog had swallowed.

Julian, 52, stars in Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet and regularly encounters dogs who have managed to eat something they shouldn’t. He recounted instances of a puppy consuming party poppers and another dog whose owner suspected it had swallowed a mole.

According to Julian, any items removed from a dog are cleaned and returned to the owners for “evidential purposes”. However, one particular incident led to a tense situation when a dog had swallowed a pair of women’s underwear.

In his column for Woman’s Weekly, Julian wrote: “We retrieved a pair of lacy underpants from a Labrador and gave them to the husband and wife, who were so grateful that the dog was OK – until the wife said, ‘They’re not mine.’

“The couple went off in a big commotion. The dog was fine but I’m not sure about the marriage.”

Julian emphasised the need for sensitivity when delivering news about a family pet. He says owners can often be left “upset” when realising a family member left something lying around or forgot to close a kitchen door and a mischievous pet ate something they shouldn’t.

He recalled a recent incident where a woman was extremely distressed after her dog caught and swallowed a mole, fearing the creature would try to burrow its way out of the dog, reports the Express.

Fortunately, the woman’s dog was unharmed and she was able to see the humour in the situation later. On a separate occasion, Julian recounts how a young puppy managed to ingest a bag of party poppers.

His initial concern was that the dog might suffer from an obstruction or the poppers could detonate inside the pup. Thankfully, the puppy was alright and began to excrete small fragments of party popper in its faeces.

Julian gained popularity in 2015 as the primary practice showcased on The Yorkshire Vet. Since then, he has made several appearances on programmes like Our Great Yorkshire Life.
