Former Love Island contestant Amy Hart has opened up about the less glamorous side of the hit TV show, sharing some behind-the-scenes secrets with her fans.
The 31 year old reality star, who graced the villa back in 2019, spilled the beans on what it’s like to be on the ITV2 series, particularly when it comes to dealing with periods during the two-month-long stint.
Amy’s candid revelations came in a video that quickly went viral, gaining over 5 million views, as she responded to a burning question from the show’s audience.
Addressing her followers directly, Amy was bemused: “I’ve had this so many times in all the comments. I don’t really understand what you think I’m going to say, like we’re segregated in another room, only allowed to wear black bikinis?”
She clarified: “We just get on with it like you would do if you’re on holiday.”

In a bid to sidestep the issue while on the show, Amy confessed she attempted to manipulate her contraceptive pill schedule, saying: “Because I didn’t want to have a period while I was in there and the doctor was like, ‘Yeah, that’s not going to work’, and I was like, ‘It will, it will’.”
Despite her efforts, nature took its course: “And it did work until it didn’t, which was annoying. But yeah, you just get on with it.”
In the caption of her video, Amy acknowledged individual differences between contestant’s experiences: “I understand everyone is different and they’d make allowances I’m sure. I was just talking about my experience and meant we weren’t banished.”
Another ex-contestant shared behind-the-scenes gossip on how the islanders managed to smoke and vape during their stay in the villa. Ellie Spence, who entered the villa as a bombshell in 2023 and was paired with Jordan Odofin, disclosed that smoking was only allowed at specific times and there would often be a scramble for who got to go out.
Ellie explained: “Everyone smoked or vaped. So we would all fight to go out at dinner time or lunch time. You could only really go at those times.
“I used to wake up at breakfast, I was that stressed, I was like ‘let me go out for a vape! ‘ You would have to ask and stand by the door. One day I just opened the door. I was so stressed and no-one was replying to me.
“I just opened the door and was like ‘I’m going for a vape!’ and they were like ‘what are you doing?’ over the tannoy.”
