Fox finds itself in a tight spot after getting 3 paws stuck in South London garden chair

A fox found itself in a tricky situation from which it couldn’t work its way out on Sunday, January 12. The wild animal got three out of four paws stuck in the wooden slats of a garden chair in South East London.

A Mottingham resident spotted the distressed animal, who thankfully had not broken any bones, in their garden and called the RSPCA. The animal experts believe the female tried to jump up over the back and slipped between the slats.

RSPCA Inspector Clive Hopwood said: “The poor fox had managed to get both front paws and one back paw wedged between the wooden slats in the back of a garden chair.

“I suspect she’d gone to jump onto the back of the chair and slipped between the slats. It must have been very painful and uncomfortable for her to be left hanging there like that.

“Thankfully, I was able to carefully slide her legs back up and out of the gaps and release her from the trap.”

The fox found itself in an awkward spot

Clive checked her over at the scene before taking her to The Fox Project for ongoing care.

He added: “The team at The Fox Project don’t believe she’s broken any bones so she’s very lucky. We’re hopeful she’ll recover so she can be released back into the wild.”

The RSPCA emphasised that specialist officers will always help with rescues where possible.
