Coronation Street chaos continues as another star announces shock exit

Coronation Street star Seamus McGoff has seemingly announced that he left the soap.

It comes after a number of stars, including Colson Smith, Luca Toolan, Sue Devaney, Sue Cleaver and Charlotte Jordan, were axed from the long-running soap. Fans were shocked by Seamus’ news when he took to Instagram to say his character, Matty Radcliffe, had ‘gone out with a bang’.

He posted a behind the scenes shot posing with his castmates Jack Carroll, Marc Bayliss, as well as Rebecca Atkinson – who plays a prison guard. He also posted a picture of the final scene he filmed. Fans rushed to the comment section to wish him luck in his future endeavours, with one writing: “Great episode, bad lad. All the best in the future,” and another posting: “Omg are you leaving.”

“You ain’t done already are you!?!” another asked while one upset user posted: “Don’t tell me that is your last scene?” Seamus’ character, Matty, was part of a devastating storyline which saw his brother Mason (played by Luca Toolan) get stabbed to death by their older brother Logan (played by Harry Lowbridge).

Matty’s final scene saw him in a prison waiting to see his girlfriend. His girlfriend didn’t show up and Matty became agitated by the way Bobby Donovan (played by Jack) looked at him. He soon grabbed a knife and threatened to harm Bobby, with Rob Donovan (played by Marc) stepping in to calm him down.

The ITV soap marked its 60th anniversary just over four years ago but there are real fears the soap is in crisis after multiple exits and axes, with fan favourites like Eileen Grimshaw ( Sue Cleaver ) and Daisy Midgeley ( Charlotte Jordan ) all leaving the show.

Late last year, new show boss Kate Brooks warned of some unexpected exits ahead. She warned: “There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves. People might not expect the exits, but there are a few.”

On Christmas Day, Helen Worth played her last scene in the show after five decades on screen. At the time her exit was announced, Helen admitted it was the “perfect” time to go. Lucy Fallon, Shelley King, Maureen Lipman, and more have also recently announced their departure from the show.

Thankfully, Maureen’s departure from the cobbles isn’t permanent as she told concerned fans: “I’ll be absent for a while and then coming back. I’m not going to die, but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life. David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year.”
