‘This incident shows the dangers of evading capture and the devastating consequences’

This was the moment three teenagers scarpered from a suspected stolen car after a pursuit ended with a crash. At around 9.30am yesterday (January 14), officers received reports of a car being stolen from a property on Northumberland Street, in Wigan, in the early hours of the morning.

Police tracked down the car, which was driven away from officers at speed. The chase came to a sudden halt following a crash on Wigan Road, in Standish.

Thankfully, no serious injuries were suffered following the collision, Greater Manchester Police says. But the car’s three occupants all fled the scene on foot, as they tried to evade arrest.

A helicopter from the National Police Air Service, which supported GMP in the pursuit, captured the moment the trio abandoned the car from above. Dramatic video shows all three suspects being chased down by officers in Standish.

Footage shows the three suspects leaving a blue car, while unmarked police cars pull up close to it. A wall appears to have been damaged in the collision, with bricks on the ground.
