The signs that you’re an embarrassing parent have been revealed, with attempting to do viral TikTok dances and using youth slang coming out top.
Other things that make teenagers cringe when it comes to their mum and dad include their parent kissing them in front of their friends, adding their mates on social media and borrowing their kids’ clothes.
The poll, commissioned by streaming site Netflix to mark its new movie Back in Action starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, found 89% of teenagers said they were embarrassed by their parents.
Dads came out as being deemed less hip than mums, with 54% of teens saying their father was uncool compared to 46% who said their mother was mortifying.
A quarter of parents said they knew their teenage children deem them uncool, with 95% also agreeing that youngsters aged between 13 and 19 are regularly embarrassed by their mum and dad.
Half of mums and dads say they try to laugh off being thought of as uncool, while one in 10 pretend it doesn’t matter to them, even though it does. In contrast, 7% try to be cooler in front of their kids, potentially inadvertently embarrassing them in the process.
Back in Action tells the story of two former CIA spies who give it up to start a family. However, after 15 years, and with two teenagers, Matt (Jamie Foxx) and Emily (Cameron Diaz) jump back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown.
