Man jailed for seven years over ‘repeated sexual abuse’ of three girls

A man has been jailed for seven years over the sexual abuse of three victims. Warren Findlay was convicted of ten sex offences against three girls after a trial.

A judge at Mold Crown Court said during a sentencing hearing on Monday that the abuse began when Findlay, 35, of Uwch y Don Avenue, Old Colwyn, was a teenager. There had been “repeated sexual abuse” against the young girls over a number of years.

The victims, who cannot be named to protect their anonymity, gave moving statements about their ordeals. Prosecutor Myles Wilson told how the first victim felt she couldn’t forget what happened. You can sign up for all the latest court stories here

The defendant had taken her childhood away. The second victim struggles to trust men including male doctors while the third wondered what was the point of being alive.

Nicholas Williams, defending, said the offending has had – and would have – a huge impact on Findlay and his family. Since the last offence many years ago his client has lived a “blame free, positive life”.

He has been a fabricator and then a labourer on construction sites. He was found guilty of raping a girl under 13, attempting to rape a girl aged 15 or under, three sexual assaults on females, being an offender under 18 engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl under 15, two counts of assaulting a female by penetration, assaulting a female aged over 13 by penetration and assaulting a girl under 13 by touching.

The judge His Honour Niclas Parry said the abuse started when he was a teenager and the girls were young. As he had denied the allegations a trial had to be held meaning the victims had to relive the trauma of the abuse.

The court heard Findlay still maintains his innocence and the judge said he has shown no contrition. He jailed Findlay for a total of seven years for three of the offences.

These terms were for two, three and two years in jail respectively for raping a girl under 13, attempted rape of a girl under 15 and assaulting a female aged 13 or over by penetration.

There were also three, concurrent, 12-month jail terms for each of the three sexual assaults. There were no separate penalties for the remaining offences. The judge also ordered the defendant to notify the authorities if he changes his name or address for life. North Wales Police declined to provide a custody image of the defendant.
