A North London nursery where children develop “excellent” levels of independence has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. Inspirations Montessori Nursery School, situated in Lincoln Road, Enfield, has been given the highest possible rating following an inspection on November 29 last year.
The Montessori method of education which encourages teachers to follow children’s natural interests and activities rather than formal teaching methods. Children aged between two and four at the North London nursery engage in hands-on learning designed to best prepare them for primary school.
An Ofsted inspector labelled the teaching as “inspirational”, with children deeply engaged in activities and able to work together to solve problems. The inspector added: “This creates a curriculum that is exciting, challenging and well sequenced, igniting children’s curiosity for learning.
“Staff have a very clear understanding of what they want children to learn. Teaching is adapted to meet the individual needs of the children. This leads to children making excellent progress in all areas of learning.”
From an early age the children are encouraged to be highly considerate of others and learn to share. One example noted is that when a child wants to play with a toy another child is already using, they fetch a sand timer and tell an adult they wish to play with it afterwards.
As a result of this, Ofsted said the children are able to develop “excellent levels of independence.”
The report said: “Younger children persevere as they take off their coats and boots. They seek support from an adult if needed. Children find their slippers and put them on and self-register.
“Parents comment on the ‘incredible progress’ their children are making. They say that with phenomenal support from the nursery their children have gained confidence and thrive.”
