BBC Breakfast interrupted as host makes ‘breaking news’ announcement

BBC Breakfast host Sarah Campbell interrupted Thursday’s (January 16) programme to announce sudden “breaking news”.

In the most recent episode of the popular morning show, Sarah, alongside her co-host Roger Johnson, shared the breaking news that the UK economy grew by just 0.1 percent in November last year.

“In the last few minutes, we’ve had an official update on how the UK economy is performing,” Sarah revealed before handing over to her colleague Ben Boulos.

“It’s the thinnest of margins, and it’s below expectations,” Ben explained.

“When you drill down into the detail, it’s an interesting picture across different parts of the economy. Construction, so that’s things like house building, grew. Services, the biggest part of the economy, grew, but only slightly. A particular bright spot is pubs, restaurants, and IT services. Production, on the other hand, fell.”

Ben noted that the figures were an “estimate,” so they could later be revised up or down. This comes after the economy shrank slightly in September and October 2024.
