The UK is a treasure trove of stunning coastlines, each with its unique charm and diverse offerings.
But among these coastal retreats lies a lesser-known paradise that promises dolphin sightings and nature’s tranquillity without the cacophony of crowded tourist hotspots.
This secret find is progressively gaining admirers as more discover its serene escape from the typical beach hustle. Tucked away in Skinningrove, North Yorkshire, is Cattersty Sands, an idyllic stretch of shoreline that has remained untouched by mainstream coastal attractions that often overburden an otherwise peaceful experience.
Perched on the edge of the celebrated Cleveland Way, a sweeping 109-mile walking path through breath-taking North Yorkshire scenery, this particular beach not only provides free parking but also the opportunity to spot dolphins weaving through the waves.
Its seclusion has maintained a low profile, yet those who’ve stumbled upon it and vocalised their delight on platforms like TripAdvisor and Google, echo consistent acclaim for this quiet, sandy enclave.

TripAdvisor user Meg B raved: “I loved Skinningrove! The folk are friendly and helpful. The beach deserves 5* for cleanliness. It is quiet and on the Cleveland Way. The Iron Mine guided tour is a must and very interesting, the area being steeped in history.”
Bev F enthused: “Free small car park and the most beautiful beach. Its so clean and our dog loved exploring the shells, stones and beach area.
“There was absolutely no litter or dog mess on this beach, it was fabulous and also no facilities i.e. toilet/shop.
“It was so quiet when we visited, it was like walking on a private beach area! stunning!”
Freddiedoncaster pointed out: “The fact that when you drive into the free car park, which is yards from the beach, and you’re not smelling cheap hotdogs being cooked, empty takeaway rubbish littered around, and amusement arcade sounds, you know you’re going to enjoy!”
He advised future visitors: “Don’t be fooled if you think the beach you see is the only beach. If you walk along the pathway and through the gap, you’ll come across one of the most wonderful beaches in the UK.”
