Pervert sexually attacked young girl as ‘people passed by in broad daylight’

A north Manchester man has been jailed after sexually assaulting a young girl ‘in broad daylight’. West Yorkshire Police says David Collier committed his sick crimes as ‘members of the public passed by’ in Halifax.

The 35-year-old targeted his young victim during an incident on April 30 last year. Collier, of Woodstock Road in Moston, admitted a string of child sex offences in court, all in connection with the same incident.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and causing a child to engage in sexual activity. Collier was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court yesterday (January 15).

He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, extended by 18 months on licence due to the risk he poses to the public. Collier was also given a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Detective Constable Riah Nicholson, of Calderdale’s Safeguarding Team, said: “Collier committed these offences in broad daylight whilst members of the public passed by. I would like to praise the bravery of the young victim coming forward to us and supporting this prosecution.
