Cat owners in England who have pouches of pet food in their kitchen have been warned. Felix As Good As It Looks has been reduced from 100g to 85g per pouch, with the cost remaining the same at around £5 for a box of 12 or £15 for a box of 40.
It means it has been shrunk by 15 per cent per pouch – but the price has stayed the same. A Reddit user explained: “I noticed recently that the normal Felix cat food hadn’t been available for around a month and a half so my family were having to buy the Felix as good as it looks cat food on our shopping order which was a lot more expensive than the regular Felix cat food at £5 for 12x100g pouches.”
Speaking out, they added: “And now the normal Felix cat food is available again but it’s now decreased in size from 12x100g pouches (1.2kg, 1200g) to 12x85g (1.02kg, 1020g) which is a 15% decrease in the weight and is still the same price at £3.75.

“And Sainsbury’s now do a bigger pack of 40 of the cat food pouches which they didn’t do before, as my family have kittens and the bigger pack is cheaper than getting the smaller boxes of cat food. And they’ve done this to all of their other cat food pouches as well (adult and senior) as they’re also now in 12x85g pouches when they were 12x100g before.
“And now Felix cat food pouches are the same weight as the Whiskas cat food pouches which had also decreased by the same amount a while ago.” Taking to Reddit, a second said: “What else would one expect from a Nestlé brand.”
“Felix is trash anyway. Cats need grain free wet and dry food. Not this s***,” another commented. Another said: “That kitten cat food doesn’t contain any grains and the whiskas kitten dry food that my family give to our cats also doesn’t contain any grains either according to the Sainsbury’s website. Also originally my familys kittens were having whiskas cat food pouches but they weren’t eating very much of it so we switched to Felix cat food and the cats eat all of the food from their bowls now.”
Purina, which makes Felix, told The Sun that the changes were introduced to stop food waste. A spokesperson said: “As part of our transition into new mono material pouches, all Felix AGAIL skus [stock keeping units] are moving to a new 85g pouch weight. This packaging can be taken back to front of store to be recycled in the UK and can be recycled at kerbside in Ireland.
“The decision to reduce the pouch weight as part of that transition was based on research showing that cats typically consume less than 100g of food in one sitting. With this new, more ideal pouch weight, we aim to prevent wet food from drying out and ensure that cats have fresh wet food in every meal.”
