Four in hospital after taking ‘contaminated’ MDMA

Four people have been hospitalised in the West Country after ingesting potentially contaminated MDMA that triggered seizures. A drug contamination alert has been issued by a drug charity in Cornwall and Devon following the incident, which occurred between December 18 and December 20.

The four people hospitalised reportedly consumed ecstasy and experienced severe chest pain, seizures or incapacitation. According to a Facebook post by the charity Together Devon, the contaminated substance is believed to be a white, crystalline powder.

The charity stated: “We have been made aware of a drug alert issued in Cornwall in relation to potentially contaminated Ecstasy/MDMA. There have been four people conveyed to hospital in Cornwall, following use of what they thought to be MDMA or ecstasy.

“In instances where Naloxone was administered, the overdose effect has been reversed for a period of time, however, once it has worn off, seizures returned.”

There have been additional reports of people feeling unwell after taking what they believed to be ecstasy or MDMA, reports Cornwall Live.
