Mum's urgent New Year's Eve fireworks warning as video shows rockets shoot at family

A mum has shared footage of fireworks shooting at her family who ran in terror as she has issued a New Year’s Eve warning.

Tammy Westwood admits she made a mistake after her 21-year-old son Adam Westwood bought a box of fireworks for Bondire Night but they didn’t bury it in the ground as the shop owner advised. The 53-year-old’s video shows the box firing five colourful shots in the air before dangerously falling over to face them and Adam’s girlfriend Charlie Bailey, 18.

They can be heard screaming as it shoots green and red fireballs across the small garden and hits them with sparks as they run for safety. Content creator Tammy claims they were lucky to get inside without suffering any injuries and that the heat even burned her home’s windows. The mum-of-two admits the Bonfire Night blunder was “her fault” for not heeding advice to bury the box.

She is now urging those planning a New Year’s Eve DIY display to follow safety guidance. Tammy, from Chigwell, Essex, said: “We were watching it and suddenly we heard a loud noise. One of the loudest noises I have ever heard. I just screamed then it started shooting at us and we started getting really scared.

“As it fell forward and started firing at us, I knew something was wrong. The sparks were flying at us but we were ducking and quickly ran inside. We felt the heat as the sparks were landing on our backs while we tried to get in the house. We quickly got in before anything major happened and we set the whole garden alight. We cr*pped it a little bit.

“It was Adam’s first time buying fireworks and he was really excited to try them. He looked at the big one and said ‘I’m not sure if we need to bury this one or not’ but I said ‘no it will be fine just put it on the ground. It’s flat on the bottom’. Great parenting from me. They told him he might want to bury it but it’s my fault because I said it would be fine.”

As New Year’s Eve approaches, Tammy is urging people to read instructions and be careful when setting off fireworks. Tammy said: “Please read the instructions on the side, it will tell you if you need to bury it and make sure it’s at a safe place. It’s my fault for thinking we didn’t need to bury it but thank God there were no injuries. I thought it was good enough putting it in the garden quite far away but it clearly wasn’t. It could’ve been a very different situation.”
