Viewers took to an online forum to share their discontent with many calling the current situation “ridiculous”.
Kicking the conversation off, one fan said: “This is just ridiculous at the moment, NYE was great, but the two weeks that followed were horrendous.
“All of this stuff with Lauren is just terrible writing, getting really hard to watch.”
EastEnders fans slam ‘lazy’ and ‘terrible’ writing on the BBC show
Many Reddit users agreed with the original poster, with one EastEnders fan writing: “I am pretty bored at the moment. I don’t have much interest in the “mystery” of Cindy’s attacker nor in the Denise/Ravi/Jack triangle, and Reiss is just as painful to watch as ever.
“It’s going to have to pick up soon because it isn’t a promising lead-in to the 40th right now.”
Another said: “I’m honestly letting the episodes stack up and when I know that things have sorted themselves out, I’ll either resume or catch up on what’s happened.”

Another BBC viewer took a slightly different view, telling the OP: “I wouldn’t personally call it “terrible writing” but it does feel a bit like a desperate/forced attempt just to have a ‘whodunnit’ for the anniversary.
“It almost feels like a parody of a soap whodunnit. We know it won’t be Lauren because she’s been arrested first. George, Kojo, and Anna are all too obvious.
“Ian and Kathy are too important as characters. That leaves Elaine, Junior, Gina or Peter.”
They added: “It’s not necessarily a bad story but to build it up and drag it out into the 40th anniversary just feels unearned: it isn’t different or exciting, and the characters involved aren’t that great either.”
