Simple laundry hack can dry clothes indoors in 15 minutes – no tumble dryer needed

Navigating the challenge of drying clothes during the colder months can be a hassle without the convenience of a tumble dryer, but a simple trick has emerged that makes the process incredibly easy.

The inability to dry laundry outside often leads to clothes with a musty odour. However, this technique promises to get your damp garments dry in as little as 15 minutes.

This “game changing” tip was shared by TikToker Tee @tee_diaz01, who employs two straightforward methods. Initially, she adopts the traditional approach of “smacking” wet clothes against the side of the bathtub.

Following this, she constructs a makeshift dryer using items commonly found at home, which you probably already have.

She takes a perforated laundry basket and hangs some items on coat hangers inside it. Then, she encases the basket within a large laundry bag, ensuring there’s an opening at the top, reports the Express.

The final step involves inserting a hairdryer into the opening and blasting the clothes with hot air for a quick 15-minute session, which is enough to fully dry the clothes inside.

The woman emphasised that this method is particularly useful when you need to dry an item of clothing quickly, as it can significantly expedite the drying process.

However, it’s important to check that your laundry basket is heat resistant before trying this hack. If it isn’t, the heat from the hairdryer could deform the plastic, potentially ruining your clothes and creating a fire hazard.

Laundry experts have come forward with a simple tip to expedite the drying process of your clothes. Home energy specialist Andy Threlfall suggests an extra spin cycle in the washing machine can significantly reduce moisture, aiding quicker air-drying at home.

He stated: “It is essential to ventilate a room when drying laundry given the incredible volume of water vapour that is released into the home (around five litres).”

Threlfall also noted that this practice not only speeds up the drying due to better air circulation but also prevents clothes from acquiring a damp smell.

He added: “If possible, I would also recommend running your laundry through an additional spin cycle to ensure as much water as possible is spun out, especially for heavier items such as jeans, towels or hoodies.”
