Timothee Chalamet says he was fined £65 for riding Lime bike to London premiere

Actor Timothee Chalamet has claimed he was fined after arriving at the UK premiere of his Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown on a Lime bike.

The Hollywood star, 29, said he received a £65 fine for not parking the to-hire electric bike properly after he cycled it down the red carpet of the event at BFI Southbank in London on Tuesday.

Appearing on French talk show Quotidien to promote the biopic, Chalamet explained he had hopped on the bike as there were traffic jams on the road.

“There were lots of traffic jams and it was quicker by bike,” he told the host in French.

He added: “Actually, I wasn’t allowed to park there, consequently (which meant) I was fined £65.”

It is not clear who issued the fine as the PA news agency understands that Lime does not issue first offenders fines, and when it does they start from £2 and escalate to £20 under Lime’s progressive discipline policy.

Lime is a shared electric vehicle company which provides short-term rentals of electric bikes and scooters in various cities across the world.

The actor is not the first to do a stunt with a to-hire bike. Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger attracted attention when he joined former prime minister Boris Johnson on a bike ride in 2011 to check out the London cycle hire scheme, which were dubbed Boris bikes.

Chalamet stars as acclaimed musician Dylan in the Oscar-tipped film which looks back on the singer’s early days in the 1960s, culminating in his performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

It also stars US actress Elle Fanning as love interest Sylvie Russo.

The film garnered numerous Bafta Film Award nominations on Wednesday including nods in the best film and adapted screenplay categories and a leading actor nomination for Chalamet.

It was directed by James Mangold, who also took charge of Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. That film was nominated for five Oscars, winning one for best actress for Witherspoon.

A Complete Unknown will be released in UK cinemas on Friday.
