BBC The Traitors row erupts over ‘sexist’ Minah comment to Claudia

The Traitors series 3 took another sharp twist in Wednesday’s episode as Minah, the last Traitor standing, was seen banishing a fellow traitor and then being compelled to recruit afresh.

However, BBC viewers were left stunned at Minah’s remarks, which many deemed “sexist”, towards presenter Claudia Winkleman following her decision process, reports the Express.

In the seventh instalment of the gripping series—where ‘Faithfuls’ strive to unmask the covert Traitors amid their ranks before falling victim to murder or erroneous banishment—turmoil ensued when Minah played a part in ousting her co-conspirator Linda during the group’s pivotal round table discussion.

Subsequently, Claudia made her way turrets-wards to notify the last Traitor, Minah, that she must enlist a new Traitor, direct and in person, according to the game’s rules. When quizzed by Claudia on her recruit choice, Minah asserted: “I only wanna pick a female. And I just feel like sisterhood means something. There was no like, backstabbing.”

Minah ultimately opted to bring Charlotte into the fold, notably the contestant who has thus far masqueraded with a South Wales accent, despite hailing from England. Yet, the motive behind Minah’s choice sparked allegations of sexism amongst some watchers, who believed Jake, proved right over Linda and a formidable Faithful, should have been her pick.

Viewers took to Twitter to express their strong opinions on the latest episode of The Traitors. @leafyfififoo tweeted: “Given Jake was very vocal from day 1 about Linda being a traitor, he would’ve been my choice to recruit – no traitor would’ve thrown another under the bus so many times, it’s the perfect cover. Poke your sisterhood nonsense up yer bum and play the game”.

@thfc_s1mg3 shared their thoughts saying: “What a weirdly sexist comment from Minah about having to recruit a woman because they wouldn’t stab her in the back #TheTraitors #TheTraitorsUK”. @mayce_windu commented: “It’s a bit sexist, Minah only wanting to pick a woman as a traitor.”

@janthonydean pointed out: “Poor decision by Minah.. Charlotte has been at risk time and time again, there won’t be any sisterhood there and will stab you in the back. Oh dear Minah.. #TheTraitors”. @jpkastein expressed frustration: “This game is absolutely sexist! The blood sisterhood – give it a rest.”

@ryanthesoapking felt that: “The way Jake was robbed of being a Traitor just because Minah is all about sisterhood. The fact that Jake sussed out Linda from Day 1 would’ve made him a great Traitor. He’s a clever player with no heat on him. #TheTraitors”. @simplystevebest questioned the rationale: “It has to be a female. Why? ” “The sisterhood is strong”.

So strong you helped get rid of both of the others. ” @l0ttiehall criticized Minah’s decision: “Did Minah just say.

‘I want to pick a woman because the sisterhood means something, there was no back stabbing’ ?? Did she not vote off both Armani and Linda #TheTraitors”.

The Traitors will be back on BBC1 at 9pm on Thursday and Friday, and also available on BBC iPlayer.
