A 19-year-old man has been arrested after another man was seriously injured in an apparent drive-by shooting, police have said.
He was fired on while getting out of a taxi at about 12:15 GMT on Shaw Road in Oldham by someone on a motorcycle who then fled the scene, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
A large police presence was quickly set up in the area to allow evidence to be preserved and gathered.
Officers “quickly arrested” a 19-year-old suspect, the force said.
Officers have set up cordons in areas including the junction of Shaw Road with Shaw Street, Mortimer Street, the junction of Bower Street and Gold Street, and Huddersfield Road.
Supt Phil Hutchinson said officers were “following multiple lines of inquiry to understand what has led to this shooting as quickly as possible, and to provide reassurance in the community”.
He added: “Hearing of incidents involving firearms, particularly where someone has been injured, I know will be shocking for most people.
“We have officers speaking to witnesses and residents locally, but welcome anyone with information or concerns to raise these with those on the ground.”
