Hollyoaks’ Paul Danan met George Michael in chance encounter – and couldn’t believe what he said

Former Hollyoaks actor Paul Danan sadly died today at the age of 46. During a podcast appearance last year, he recounted an unusual conversation with George Michael at a star-studded party in 1998.

Speaking on The Dozen with Liam Tuffs podcast, Paul reminisced about his younger days, particularly the 1998 MTV Awards held in Milan. He travelled to Donatella Versace’s opulent home with his friend and MTV award-winning act, the Prodigy, who had won four awards that night.

He remembered a chance encounter with George Michael. Meeting the Wham! star for the first time, Paul warmly recalled what the singer told him: “Me and Kenny (Kenny Goss, George’s ex-boyfriend) we love you, we watch you every Sunday. I just wanted to say that we love your character (on Hollyoaks).'”

Responding simply with ‘thanks so much’, Paul described his disbelief at some of the celebrities present, including Lenny Kravitz and the Spice Girls.

Over the years, Paul appeared in numerous TV shows, but was perhaps best known for his role as Sol Patrick in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks from 1997 to 2001, reports the Daily Mirror.

In addition to his acting roles, Paul also featured prominently in reality TV shows in the early 2000s, including Celebrity Big Brother and ITV’s Celebrity Love Island in 2005. Tributes have poured in on social media, with Katie Price posting: “Wow just speechless and shocked, many memories I’ll always remember. RIP. ” Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, a former Big Brother contestant, expressed her shock and heartbreak, saying: “Paul Danan… a friend of mine… I’m so shocked and heartbroken…, my darling man… I will cherish all our happy memories. RIP u beautiful amazing talented human.”

In a statement, Paul’s management team announced: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old. Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.

“His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him. During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time.”
