Nick Knowles shares crushing health update as he addresses Strictly Come Dancing return

Nick Knowles has revealed he won’t be fully recovered from a severe knee injury for at least eight months. The DIY SOS presenter tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a rehearsal for Strictly Come Dancing.

He had taken a week off the BBC show before returning to the dancefloor with professional partner Luba Mushtuk only to be sent home by the judges as he struggled to perform any moves. Nick, 62, has undergone an operation following the severe knee injury and revealed he won’t be fully healed for eight months.

Addressing the fact that some stars return to the show after doing a Christmas special, Nick said his time in the spotlight had been and gone as he said he wouldn’t return for the 2025 series. He told The Sun: “Because you had an injury, it’s a bit different. I did, but I was still four weeks into it.

“And so I think I’ve done the stint that I did…But unfortunately, once you have the knee injury, it’s going to be about eight months before it’s fully 100% again.

“So, no, I think I’ll go back to doing less dangerous things like climbing mountains and riding motorbikes and playing polo.”

After the expensive operation to fix his knee, Nick was left “learning how to walk again”. He also underwent a second operation to reattach his bicep after he injured his arm while changing a tire on his car before the launch show of Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking about the operations and the lengthy recovery process afterwards he said: “So it wasn’t on my letter to Santa for two major operations – one to reattach my bicep and a second to build a new ACL and mend two tears in the meniscus. Thank you to my two magnificently talented surgeons – Mr Ahrens for the bicep and Mr Jig Patel for the knee.

QThree types of knee brace and one type of elbow brace – crutches – game ready ice and pressure machine – pressure leggings – physio stretching out for months ahead but I want to be walking normally by start of February for the next DIYSOS.”
