A large road closure was put in place on the Woodhead Pass on Thursday night (January 16) following reports of a serious collision.
National Highways and police blocked off the A628 in both directions between Tintwistle and Glossop following the incident. Fire crews, police and paramedics were also called to the scene.
Traffic was being diverted to other local routes, which caused congestion. One post on social media said Hadfield, Padfield, and Tintwistle became ‘very congested’ due to the closure.
The incident was first reported at around 5pm, with road closures remaining in place for a number of hours. Recovery was called to the scene at around 9.30pm for the road to reopen.
Derbyshire Police and the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for further details on the nature of the collision.
An update from live traffic service Inrix said: “A628 Woodhead Pass in both directions closed due to accident between New Road (Tintwistle) and B6105 (Glossop Turn Off, Woodhead).”
