The pretty seaside town 80 minutes from London where houses sell for under £100k

If you’re thinking of moving out of London in search of cheaper house prices, one seaside town in Essex has homes costing a fraction of those in the city. Despite its attractive, historic character and excellent transport links, this small town has streets where homes can be purchased for well under £100k.

Harwich, a historic maritime town situated on the north-eastern tip of Essex just 80 minutes from central London, offers a mix of coastal charm and practical living. Popular areas like Dovercourt offer stunning sea views and a family-friendly environment, while places such as Parkeston provide easy access to transport links.

Elizabeth Road in Harwich, just a few streets away from the promenade, is one such street where you can almost see the sea. The properties here aren’t exactly palatial, but they are incredibly affordable considering the pleasant lifestyle the area offers.

According to Rightmove, flats and houses on this street rarely sell for more than £100k, with recent sales going for well under £80k. These properties may not be large, often featuring one or two bedrooms, but they make perfect starter homes for first-time buyers.

Aside from its affordable housing, there’s much to love about this lively town. Dovercourt Bay in Harwich is a popular spot with its own caravan park, and a nearby beach is often referred to as a hidden gem, reports Essex Live.

Despite its historical charm, the town is not stuck in the past. It boasts modern amenities such as supermarkets, a train station, schools and a variety of pubs and restaurants.

Getting there
