Tesla Cybertruck seized outside Morrisons garage for not being ‘road legal’

The Tesla ‘Cyberbeast’ truck cannot be legally driven in the UK – but some drivers flout the rules (Picture: GMP)

A Tesla Cybertruck was spotted on the road in Greater Manchester despite being ‘illegal’ in the UK.

The futuristic truck has been controversial since its launch two years ago due to its unusual design.

Tesla owner Elon Musk was forced to defend the vehicle after a soldier blew himself up in a Cybertruck outside a Las Vegas hotel on New Year’s Day.

Although Cybertrucks are not allowed on UK roads, sightings of the vehicle are regularly reported across the country.

Now a Cybertruck was seen whizzing along the roads in Bury.

But the journey of the black ‘Cyberbeast’ model was cut short after officers stopped it in Whitefield last night.

While the driver was a permanent UK resident, the car was registered and insured abroad ‘which is prohibited in the UK,’ Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

‘The Tesla Cybertruck is not road legal in the UK and does not hold a certificate of conformity,’ the force said.

‘Whilst this may seem trivial to some, legitimate concerns exist around the safety of other road users or pedestrians if they were involved in a collision with a Cybertruck.’

The driver of the truck was reported and the vehicle was seized under the S165 of the Road Trafic Act.

Can you buy a Tesla Cybertruck in the UK?

If you’re eager to get your hands on a Cybertruck, you might want to hold off for now.

Tesla Cybertrucks are not officially sold in the UK, but the current US price of a ‘Cyberbeast’ would be between £58,770 and £74,600, according to motoring outlet Carwow.

Experts say that making the truck legal in the UK and Europe would be an extra expense Tesla is unwilling to shoulder at the moment.

While drivers can import a Cybertruck into the UK, they won’t be able to get it certified to make it roadworthy.

The certificate of conformity details whether a car meets safety standards, emissions, size and mass appropriate on Britain’s roads.

The ‘Cyberbeast’ truck usually features a stainless steel frame and its armoured glass can reportedly sustain the impact of a baseball at 70mph.
