Nineteen neighbours have slammed plans for almost 100 new homes on a “series of fields” in Sheffield.
The city council’s planning committee has accepted the plans for 92 new homes between Hollin Busk Road, Broomfield Grove, and Broomfield Lane, an area previously described as a “series of fields” spanning 4.84ha near Stocksbridge. Initial outline permission had already been granted, setting the stage for this latest approval which covers the finer details such as appearance, landscaping, layout, and scale.
According to documents on the council’s website, the development will feature a mix of detached and semi-detached homes, with a few terraced rows of three properties dotted throughout. The majority of the houses will be two-storey buildings, offering three or four bedrooms, although there will also be some two- and five-bedroom options, as well as a couple of bungalows.
Nine of these homes are earmarked as affordable housing.
Local residents, however, have expressed concerns during the consultation phase, with 19 objections highlighting potential issues of overdevelopment, parking, traffic, and impacts on local infrastructure and the environment.
At the planning meeting, the applicant outlined that the construction would span roughly two years, promising significant job creation with 114 full-time positions and 115 indirect jobs anticipated. He also mentioned that if permission was secured, work on the site could commence within the year.
After deliberation, the chamber members cast their votes, ultimately endorsing the housing development.
