Coronation Street favourite Claire Sweeney has been replaced in The Good Ship Murder. The actress portrayed Beverley Carnell in the Channel 5 show, which has returned to screens with a second series.
Due to her filming commitments at the ITV soap, Claire’s role has been taken over by fellow soap star Ross Adams, whose character Colin Smallwood replaces Beverley as entertainment director in the series. Ross, famed for starring in Hollyoaks, has jetted out to Malta to film scenes for the third season of the popular show.
Revealing Claire’s reaction to him replacing her, Ross said: “Claire has been absolutely amazing, I did worry that I would be stepping on her toes, but she’s been brilliant.”

He revealed he and Claire came face-to-face when he arrived in Malta, as she was filming The Good Ship Murder Christmas special out there.
Ross described the Corrie star as “warm” and “friendly”, revealing the pair have even made plans to meet up for dinner at somepoint in the future.
Filming for series three of The Good Ship Murder is due to begin in spring. Most filming takes place in Malta, with stars also heading out on a cruise for three weeks across the Mediterranean to film scenes.
Ross is best known for playing Scott Drinkwell in Hollyoaks, but left the role last year after a 10-year stint on the Channel 4 soap. He admitted he felt he left Hollyoaks at the “worst time” as he began searching for new work, but thankfully landed his dream role on The Good Ship Murder.

Ross told The Sun: “I’d been there for nearly ten years, and I loved it, I loved the people there. I remember coming home and just thinking, am I doing the right thing? It was genuinely one of the scariest things I’ve ever had to do but now I feel it was the right thing for me, and that’s nothing against Hollyoaks or soap, I was just ready to spread my wings.
“And I love that Good Ship is bringing the sunshine in dreary January! I’m based in Manchester and it’s grey, and drizzling with rain.”
