Joe Wicks rushed to hospital after injuring himself while out for a run

Fitness guru Joe Wicks has shared with his followers that he’s now on crutches and sporting a medical boot after an injury sustained during a run earlier in the week. The 39 year old revealed he “rolled” his ankle on New Year’s Eve morning, explaining that he put “all” of his weight onto it.

He informed fans that an x-ray showed he has “ligament damage”. Joe broke the news to his Instagram audience on Tuesday afternoon, posting a picture of himself with crutches and the boot, alongside an x-ray image.

In the caption, he disclosed that due to the ankle injury, he won’t make it to a planned event at Virginia Water Lake in Surrey on New Year’s Day. The author and online fitness coach, also known as the Body Coach, wrote: “Happy New Year. Had a shocker this morning. Thought I’d end the year with a run. Was feeling inspired and hit the road in the dark at 6am. As I ran around the corner I rolled my ankle on the grass and put all of my weight onto it. So painful.”

Joe continued, sharing with his fans: “I had to hop back home on my other foot.” and described the whole ordeal as a “setback”, mentioning his hospital visit for the injury, reports the Mirror.

Joe shared: “Anyway bit of a setback. Went to the hospital for an X-ray because I thought it was fractured. Good news is that it’s not broken, just ligament damage.”

He then joked about his recovery plan, adding: “Codeine and ice for me today.”

The presenter also announced that he would have to cancel his planned walk at Windsor Great Park due to his injury. He apologised to his fans and promised to reschedule the event in the future.

He said: “Unfortunately this means I won’t be able to do my planned 5km walk around Virginia Lake tomorrow morning. So sorry I can’t make it. I was really looking forward to it. I’ll plan another one there as soon as I can.”

Joe also asked his followers to spread the word about the cancellation, saying: “If you know anyone who was planning on coming along can you please tag them below or let them know today. I’m worried they won’t see it and will turn up. Thank you. Have a happy new year everyone.”

His post was met with messages of support from his fans. One person commented: “Get better soon.”

Another added: “The main thing is you are ok. I hope that you have a speedy recovery and a happy new year.”

A third fan wrote: “Ouch Joe! Wishing you speedy healing. Sending lots of love and strength.”
