Two men have been arrested after a driver was spotted “acting suspiciously” by police in Newton-le-Willows. At around 7pm on Monday, December 30, officers stopped a car on Wargrave Road.
Due to a distinct smell of cannabis coming from the car, officers searched the vehicle and found several envelopes containing suspected cocaine and cannabis as well as £400 in cash, police said. A 30-year-old man from Newton-le-Willows was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis as well as drug driving.
Following further inquiries at a property linked to the suspect, further cannabis, cocaine, cash and mobile phones were seized. Information gathered at the scene led officers to a second vehicle and another home nearby in Newton-le-Willows, which was also searched and further suspected drugs were discovered, as well as a zombie knife.
A 29-year-old man from Newton-le-Willows was arrested at the scene on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, as well as possessing an offensive weapon in a private place and burglary.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Suffield said: “I hope the arrest of these two men and the positive work carried out by these officers shows how we will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of those who deal drugs in our communities.
“Not only did officers seize cocaine and cannabis from the car on Wargrave Road, but following further inquiries they found even more drugs that were destined to be sold on our streets.
“Organised crime is hugely damaging to our communities, where drug dealers often use violence and intimidation, and creating fear in neighbourhoods. Criminals involved in organised crime have no thought for anyone other than themselves, and their criminal intent and greed.
“Our work to bring these people to justice will continue on a daily basis and I would ask anyone who has information about this kind of activity to come forward so action can be taken.”If you have concerns about drug dealing in your area you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, call Merseyside Police on 101 or DM @MerpolCC.
