BBC The Apprentice: Who did Lord Sugar fire in week 1?

The show, which pits contestants against one another in a series of business challenges, saw Lord Alan Sugar put the candidates through their paces.

A total of 18 new candidates are battling it out for the opportunity of a lifetime to win Lord Sugar’s £250,000 investment and mentorship this year.

For their first task, Lord Sugar’s candidates were sent to Austria to sell and run Alpine tours.

However, as things didn’t go to plan for one team, it was Auf Wiedersehen for one of Lord Sugar’s prospective business partners.

Who was fired in week one of The Apprentice 2025?

Emma Rothwell was the first candidate fired by Lord Sugar this year.

She is the owner of an online gift store and she has seen her business evolve from a side-hustle in her boyfriend’s garage to a fully-fledged thriving business.

Emma set up her business in lockdown and said her biggest business success to date is “taking £600 and turning it into a successful and profitable business without any help or investment.”

When asked what her business plan is, she said: “To evolve my already successful business to the next level. To create an online platform where anyone can upload their designs onto gifts and earn passive income.

“Creating a community of creators and consumers. To empower people who struggle with or can’t work a 9-5 to earn an income on their own terms.”

She added: “I plan to prove to everyone that you can be successful if you put your mind to it, regardless of what anyone tells you.”

When asked why she thinks she deserves Lord Sugar’s investment, she said: “I’ve already created something successful and now I’m ready for the next stage. I’m a problem solver who never lets anything or anyone stop me for long.”

The Apprentice airs on BBC One and iPlayer every Thursday at 9pm.
