Bold Street institution to be replaced by restaurant after closure

The tapas restaurant thanked its “amazing customers for making it possible”

So Salsa in Crosby, also has two more locations in Merseyside

A popular tapas restaurant has announced it’s opening its fourth venue. So Salsa, which has locations in Crosby, Vauxhall’s Blackstock Market and Castle Street in Liverpool, will open another restaurant on Bold Street next year.

The restaurant, which serves small plates from around the world, took to social media to make the announcement. In a post on Instagram, it said: “Chapter 4… So Salsa Bold Street coming in spring 2025.

“Thank you to all our amazing customers for making it possible. Happy New Year.”

The restaurant is set to open on the site of former fancy dress giant Smiffys. The 130-year-old business whose bright red doors had been open on Bold Street for more than 20 years closed in November.

In a heartfelt tribute, a Smiffys spokesperson said: “We’re sad to announce the closure of the Smiffys Bold Street store. Thank you to the wonderful people of Liverpool for hosting us for over 20 years, we are very sad to leave and are acutely aware of the profound impact it will have on each member of our valued team, but it is a reality of a trading environment in a prime high street location.”

RH Smith, which trades as Smiffys, went into administration in June this year after being “significantly impacted significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw a huge drop in demand for costume and party products.”
