SIX flood warnings are in place across Greater Manchester tonight as torrential rain continues to batter the region.
Downpours are causing disruption across the region, with an amber weather warning in place for parts of Bolton, Bury, and Wigan as 2024 comes to an end.
The flood warnings are issued by the Environment Agency in places where ‘flooding is expected’. Tonight’s warnings are in locations across Greater Manchester, including Stalybridge, Farnworth, and Radcliffe.
Warnings are in place for the River Tame at Mossley, Roaches Bridge to Egmont Street; the River Tame at Mossley, Woodend and Waggon Road; Staley and Micklehurst Brooks at Mossley; the River Tame, Fern Bank and Millbrook in Stalybridge; the River Irwell at Prestolee and Ringley Bridges; and the River Irwell from Buckley Wells to Radcliffe.
In these areas, flooding is ‘expected’ with residents advised to ‘act now’. You can monitor water levels in your area on the government website.
It follows flood alerts in low lying land and roads around Micker, Cringle, Sinderland and Poynton brooks and their tributaries.
