Britons have welcomed the New Year with celebrations across the UK as more than 100,000 gathered in London to watch the capital’s New Year’s Eve firework display.
Millions of people around the world gathered throughout the day to mark the start of 2025.

However, there had been concerns about the weather derailing the capital’s celebrations.
Adverse conditions, including a series of yellow weather warnings issued by the Met Office, halted jubilant crowds from gathering for official displays in a number of major UK cities.
Edinburgh and Newcastle were among the cities forced to cancel celebrations due to nervousness about the impact of the weather conditions.
However, London’s celebrations received the go-ahead after Titanimum Fireworks’ display director Darryl Fleming confirmed his team had implemented extensive preparations to ensure a successful event on the Thames.

Ahead of the display, recently knighted London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan also said: “I’m really excited about the London New Year’s Eve fireworks, the biggest fireworks taking place anywhere across Europe.
“Hundreds of thousands of fireworks, great light display but also a great soundtrack tonight as well.”
