A new modern skatepark has officially opened in a Tewkesbury community, replacing a dilapidated old skatepark that had served the community for years.
Opened at Northway Playing Field, the project was made possible through major funding contributions, with The National Lottery Community Fund awarding £143,300, Enovert Community Trust providing a grant of £50,000, and additional grants from Northway Parish Council and Gloucestershire Playing Fields Association.
The new facility has been designed to provide a safe and dynamic space for wheeled sports enthusiasts of all ages, offering a venue for skateboarding, skating, scootering, and BMX activities.
In 2021, the old skatepark was deemed to only have three years remaining lifespan by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. This new skatepark now makes sure that Northway’s younger generation has a safe space not only just a skatepark but also a place that brings social and health benefits.
Christine Woodward, Clerk of Northway Parish Council, said: “The new skatepark is a fantastic asset for our community, giving young people a safe and inspiring place to stay active and enjoy themselves. We are incredibly grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund, Enovert Community Trust, Gloucestershire Playing Fields Association and our own Council for making this project possible.”

Sustainability was a key focus in the skatepark’s design as the construction process minimised environmental impact by reusing earth on-site to create slopes and reducing the need for imported materials.
Angela Haymonds, Trust Manager of Enovert Community Trust, said: “The Trust is proud to have supported the Northway skatepark project. This new facility will make a significant impact on the local community by providing a safe and engaging space for young people to enjoy, stay active, and connect with others.”
