Work starts next week to upgrade four pedestrian crossings in Bristol. South Gloucestershire Council said that from Monday, January 6, four puffin crossings will be upgraded in Hanham, Kingswood and Downend.
The new crossings will replace existing ones already at each location. However, it will use the latest equipment to ensure a better experience for pedestrians.
The new puffin crossings will be located:
-
Near Victoria Road and Creswicke Avenue on High Street, Hanham
-
Near Laburnum Street on High Street, Hanham
-
Outside the Civic Centre on High Street, Kingswood
-
Near Bromley Drive on Bromley Heath Road, Downend
During thw work, a temporary crossing will be available for pedestrians. Two-way traffic lights will be in force at each location.
Work may take up to three weeks at each site and work will begin near Victoria Road and Creswicke Avenue, moving on to Laburnum Street in Hanham, Kingswood and then Downend.
Puffin crossings are a type of pedestrian crossing where the lights signalling when pedestrians can cross are situated on the same side of the road as the user, rather than opposite the road. These crossings use sensors which can extend a red light in the event of a slower pedestrian crossing the road.
