Alison Hammond says ‘it’s a bit naughty’ as she lets slip New Year’s admission

Alison Hammond has said she once dressed up as a police officer when she attended New Year’s Eve celebrations in Newquay, Cornwall. Alison, 49, revealed the intriguing tale in the build up to a Great British Bake Off special.

Alison remembered pulling the stunt 25 years ago during the turn of the Millennium. She told the Sun: “Remember the Millennium? I dressed up. In Newquay, everybody dresses up in fancy dress for New Year and I went as a police officer.

“There was a burger stall and I got free burgers because I was a police officer. I told somebody off about drinking alcohol on the street, so they gave me their Champagne.

“It’s a bit naughty, but it was a really fun night – until one person discovered that I wasn’t a police officer because I was wearing trainers, and they chased me down the street. That was definitely memorable!”

Alison’s discussion of her antics on New Year’s Eves of past comes as the presenter’s profile continues to skyrocket due to her presenting duties on some of the UK’s best-known programmes.

She has also received much praise and admiration as she continues on her weight loss journey, opening up about her 69kg (11 stone) without the use of weight loss injections such as Ozempic.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping UK about her opinions on said weight loss jabs, Alison said: “I think that, for people who need to use them, they’re a good thing – but for me, as soon as I hear any scare story, I get frightened. So, I haven’t wanted to use them, but that’s not to say I wouldn’t in the future, and I certainly wouldn’t look down on anyone who did.”

As to how she managed to lose so much weight, Alison put it down to four factors that have allowed her to shed the pounds. She told This Morning: “I thought, I have to be an adult about this.

“The sweets had to stop – and the fatty foods. Twice a week, I see my personal trainer and I have a couple of weights in my bedroom. I walk, I stretch and sometimes I do a bit of yoga.”

Alison isn’t the only television personality speak about their experiences around the New Year. Lisa Faulkner told Bella magazine that – in contrast to Alison – dislikes the time of year and talked about what she’d rather be doing.

She said: “It’s one of my worst nights of the year. I don’t like the feeling of the end of something. There is always so much pressure to have a good time, and I don’t want to stay out late. I used to love that, but that’s not me anymore. I’d rather celebrate by cooking and going for a walk on New Year’s Day.”
