A 21-hour weather warning is in place across Bristol and the West Country on New Year’s Day. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind for England and Wales.
The warning is in place from 9am on Wednesday, January 1, until 6am on Thursday, January 2. There will be “very strong winds” across England, which are expected to cause travel disruption and pose a potential danger to life.
Forecasters predict that there will be gusts of up to 75mph winds as an area of low pressure sweeps across the UK from the west. The very strong winds are expected to cause disruption throughout most of New Year’s Day.
The Met Office has warned that roads, rail and ferry services may be affected causing longer journey times. Some buildings and properties may be damaged as strong winds blog tiles from roofs. Some places may see power cuts too.
Coastal areas will see large waves and beach material being thrown into sea fronts, roads and properties. The Met Office has also said that there is a small chance of injuries and danger to life due to flying debris.
