A nan who shed an incredible seven and a half stone so she could watch her granddaughter grow up has shared her weight loss secrets.
Jane Lomas, from Hazel Grove, had struggled with her size for three decades – tipping the scales at 20st 6lbs at her heaviest.
The gran would often eat three bars of chocolate a day and could easily get through half a pack of biscuits in one go.
But the retired financial consultant knew she had to make major changes following a health scare with her diabetes.
Determined to see her grandchild Brooke grow older, the 63-year-old vowed to turn her life around and make healthier choices.

Knowing she had to shed around eight stone, Jane split her weight into ‘bite size’ chunks’ so it felt achievable – focusing on being lighter each year rather than specific weight milestones.
However, after losing a few stone, Jane hit an obstacle when a knee operation set her back.
The procedure meant Jane spent a lot of time being sedentary and her motivation started to dwindle.
Before long, then gran had entered “self-destruct mode”, seeing her eating habits spiral out of control for three months.

“I allowed myself to lose control of my eating which meant my food spiralled out of control and it became a vicious cycle,” the gran-of-two told the Manchester Evening News.
“The more I ‘hated’ myself, the more I ate. It was a Friday night at the end of October and my husband told me I really needed to do something as he knew how disappointed I would be with myself if I didn’t.
“He was right; I had been in self-destruct mode for three months. Out then came all my excuses – Covid, being promoted at work, not being able to exercise.
“He said he had Googled Slimming World and that there was a class at 9am the following morning and that I should go. What did I have to lose?”

Jane signed up to her local group and began tracking her food intake while walking 15k steps a day.
Her new lifestyle meant the weight quickly began to drop off – eventually shedding an amazing 7.5 stone – going from a dress size 28 to a 14.
Incredibly, though she was a type 2 diabetic for almost 22 years, the gran even managed to reverse her diabetes and has since been in remission.
Her weight loss was so successful Jane even went on to become a Slimming World consultant herself, now holding sessions in Hazel Grove and Poynton.

The nan has since revealed her best tips and tricks for those looking to slim down after the festive break.
“Do online shopping,” she said. “I only get what I need so I’m not tempted with the special offers in the shops. If I do go shopping, I eat first.
“I remind myself whenever I want to waiver that nothing tastes as good as being in remission with my diabetes feels.
“If you feel ‘hungry’, try having a drink first, it’s often that you are thirsty.
“When I was working full time, I batch cooked and put things in the freezer. I would also use a slow cooker so the meals were ready when I got in.
“Nothing is forbidden, so you can have anything within moderation. Reward yourself at each milestone – it doesn’t have to be food.”
