Cardiologist Aurelio Rojas has hailed kiwis as the ultimate superfruit, surpassing even avocados and apples in health benefits. According to Rojas, this small green fruit is a powerhouse for enhancing sleep quality and ensuring the body receives an optimal level of nutrients.
He asserted: “It contains up to eight times more nutrients than an apple. It is very rich in fibre, making digestion easier.”
“In addition, its low glycemic index can reduce your insulin spikes. And it is very rich in vitamins, such as E, K and C. Both vitamin E and vitamin C are powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidants that prevent the formation of cholesterol plaques in your arteries.”
Taking to Instagram, Aurelio shared insights on how kiwis could also speed up the process of falling asleep, as reported by Telva. His post read: “Did you know that eating one or two before bed can help you fall asleep 50 percent faster? Plus, it improves the quality and duration of your sleep! Kiwi is rich in antioxidants, serotonin and vitamin C, components that promote restful sleep.”
Moreover, BedKingdom.co.uk experts have echoed the sentiment regarding kiwis’ sleep-enhancing properties earlier this year. They noted: “Studies have shown that kiwi fruit can help improve sleep quality, sleep timings, and sleep efficiency after a month of regular kiwifruit consumption before sleep.”,
Kiwifruit is packed with serotonin and antioxidants, along with essential vitamins like folate and B vitamin, which are touted for their ability to tackle sleep disorders and regulate sleep patterns. Another intriguing anecdote comes from Stephen Fry, who shares that when disrupted sleep strikes at 3am, he turns to “mayofulness”, a process involving the making of mayonnaise to soothe his mind back into slumber.
Discussing it on the Dish podcast, he said: “I wake up at three in the morning, can’t go back to sleep, I go down and I start to make mayonnaise.”
He adds that the blend of focus and relaxed repetition aids in calming his thoughts, allowing him to return to bed content with the prospect of fresh mayonnaise awaiting him: “It’s a mixture of concentration and rhythmic relaxation that I think calms the brain down. Unusually, then I can go back and go to sleep in the happy knowledge there’ll be a jar of mayonnaise. I call it ‘mayofulness’.”
In a separate tale of nocturnal habits, McFly’s Danny Jones is known to seal his lips shut with tape, a tidbit disclosed by his Yorkshire wife Georgia during his I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! stint, reports Surrey Live.
She mentioned in the Never Have I Ever podcast: “If I tell you this, this man has never fussed so much over the fact that he can’t tape his mouth in the jungle. He tapes his mouth at night. It’s meant to have many, many health benefits… It’s literally like a piece of gaffer tape. It’s like a massive plaster of your lips.”
