The Met Office has issued amber and yellow weather warnings for parts of England. Both alerts are for heavy rain.
The yellow warning covers parts of Staffordshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire and much of Wales, affecting drivers on the road network including the M6. It is in place until 11am today (January 1).
The Met Office warned: “Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.” Meanwhile, the amber alert was earlier today in place over parts of Lancashire and some parts of Yorkshire. However it ended at 9am.

A separate yellow warning for rain is in place covering parts of Staffordshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire and much of Wales. This could also affect drivers travelling on the motorway, including the M6.
The yellow rain alert is in place until 11am today. The Met Office warned of “spray and flooding” on roads in the yellow warning zone too.

It comes as a yellow wind alert is in place across much of England and Wales, including the West Midlands, with the Met Office issuing a small danger to life warning from flying debris. The wind warning will remain in place until 3pm today, January 1.
