BBC Breakfast’s Nina Warhurst makes candid confession as she vows to make a change

BBC Breakfast’s Nina Warhurst made a live commitment during Wednesday’s show. Presenting the news with Jon Kay, the pair discussed the latest happenings, which included an interesting segment about the evolution of mobile phones.

In light of the fact that the UK’s first mobile phone call was made over four decades ago in the early hours of January 1, 1985, Nina reflected on the dramatic advancements in cellphone technology. This reflection inspired her to reconsider her own phone use.

Nina, speaking directly to colleague Jon, remarked: “It’s been Pandora’s box, hasn’t it? it’s brilliant, but me and John (Watson) have just shaken on going an hour every day without looking at our mobile phones because we’re just on it all the time.”

Sports correspondent John Watson agreed, confessing to his routine of incessantly handling his phone, a habit he seems keen to curb. Jon Kay, however, seemed perplexed by their unusual agreement.

He quipped: “I thought you were committing to an hour a day on your phones max. Not an hour a day without a phone, without checking.”

Yet Nina acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead, as she admitted: “That’s hard for me, to go an hour without looking at it. I’m going to try and do that.”

Elaborating on their promise, John noted his intention to cut down on his general phone usage, expressing hope others could join in: “We can all agree to that, surely? It’s got to be a good thing.”

This isn’t the first time Nina has committed to changing her phone habits, last March, she decided to distance herself from social media due to constant scrolling, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Posting a photo with her daughter, the BBC presenter expressed on Instagram: “Signing off from insta for a few weeks. I *love* this site. I don’t take myself, or the apparently perfect lives of others, too seriously.”

She continued by saying: “Maybe I love it too much…. Because I’ve found myself scrolling all. The. Time. Catching up on people’s stories, having a nosey at how people live who have nothing to do with me, and (the absolute grossest) checking for likes …. Enough is enough. I’ve never had so many plates to spin, and this little chick needs my full attention more often.”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
