Air ambulance scrambled after man hit by car near Lidl store

A pedestrian was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car outside a supermarket. The man was walking close to Lidl on Olton Boulevard East in Acocks Green when he was struck by the vehicle just after 12.40pm today, Tuesday, January 6.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Heartlands Hospital for further checks. The air ambulance was scrambled and landed in a nearby park but it was not needed.

Part of the road was blocked as the emergency services dealt with the incident.

The ambulance service said in a statement: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian on Olton Boulevard East, Birmingham at 12.42pm today, Tuesday, January 6. One ambulance responded to the scene.

“An air ambulance was also sent but, on the crew’s arrival on scene, the air ambulance was cancelled. The pedestrian, a man, was assessed and conveyed to Heartlands Hospital as a precautionary measure for further checks.”

West Midlands Roads posted on X at the time: “Olton Boulevard -outside Lidl-Acocks green. Road traffic collision. Road blocked towards Acocks Green. Plan Ahead: Allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible.”
