Alex Neil was satisfied with what he saw as Millwall put Dagenham & Redbridge to the sword at The Den in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Lions ran out 3-0 winners against their National League opponents courtesy of goals from Mihailo Ivanovic, Casper De Norre and debutant Ra’ees Bangura-Williams.
Millwall put the game to bed with two goals in the final 20 minutes after Dagenham stepped things up after the break to hand Neil his first win in charge and set up a fourth round tie away at Leeds United.
When the Scot was asked if he liked what he saw on ITV post-match, he replied: “I did. I thought it was an enjoyable game for us, we moved the ball well. We scored three goals and probably should have scored more.
“You’ve got to give credit to Dagenham. They stayed in the game and made it tough for us. I thought when we got the second goal that’s probably when the game started to get away from them a little bit.
“But there’s nothing better than when you put a couple of young lads on and one of them [Bangura-Williams] puts the ball in the net. It’s a great feeling for them and a great feeling for me watching it and the supporters.”
The Lions are the joint-lowest scorers in the Championship but have hit the net five times in their last two outings.
Neil isn’t getting carried away just yet, however, given the status of Monday night’s opponents.
After being asked if the Lions treble in the cup was a sign that the goals were starting to flow, he added: “It’s difficult to say; it’s a cup tie, we’re at home and playing a team in the Conference, so that’s not going to have any bearing on how many goals we score going forward in the Championship.
“But we’re hoping some of the rotations and patterns that we put in [will help]. We’ll try and get more goals if we can.”
