All the Bradford schools shut on Wednesday after snow sticks around – Full list

There are almost 140 school closures – including later start times – for pupils and students in Bradford this morning (Wednesday). Following blizzards and flurries that have stuck around for around four days, the West Yorkshire city and surrounding towns are still dealing with the treacherous icy conditions.

Many schools will remain shut for safety reasons, while some primary schools in the area have pushed the first bell back to 10am. It comes as snow caused major problems on the roads in and around Bradford since Saturday evening.

There are currently 180 school closures across the Bradford district. See the latest below:

Notes : School Closed – Wednesday 8th January 2025. The recent weather has created challenging conditions for travel and safety, both on the roads and around our school grounds. We know that closures can have a huge impact on families but we are trying our best to ensure safety for everybody. We thank you for your continued support and understanding. An email will be sent to parents/ carers.

Hill Top CofE Primary SchoolFull Closure

Notes : Despite the best efforts of the site team the school grounds remain unsafe due to black ice. Whilst the main roads are clear the roads and footpaths leading to school make it extremely dangerous for families who need to walk in the road, which is is down to one lane for cars. Parking for staff is also unavailable on site. snow and ice have accumulated on the edges of the road and pavements, rendering the roads on Lower School Street and Common Road exceptionally narrow, at times accommodating only one vehicle. The primary concern arises from the risk assessment conducted today, which indicates that many families may need to walk on the road to access the school. This situation poses a considerable danger to both our children and their families. Additionally, our staff car park is currently at least 25cm deep with compacted snow, which will hinder staff access and exacerbate the parking issues surrounding the school. Furthermore, due to the severe weather, we have not received any deliveries for school lunches, which further complicates our ability to provide for our children should we reopen.

St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School (Shipley)Full Closure

Notes : Due to continuing challenging conditions on our site and surrounding areas, we have made the decision to close again today, Wednesday 8th January. A huge effort was made by our site manager yesterday to get our school site ready to open. However, further snowfall since then and freezing temperatures overnight and this morning have meant that the site is again unsafe. We are aware of the terrible icy condition of some side roads and pathways coming up to school which would affect families and staff travelling to school. We know that closures can have a huge impact on families but we are trying our best to ensure safety for everybody. We thank you for your continued support and understanding. No breakfast club provision available.

St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic CollegeFull Closure

Notes : Further ice and snow over night compounding already dangerous conditions on both of the two sites and surrounding pathways presents too great a hazard for students and staff, many of whom have to travel between sites to teach and support students. This coupled with the current unreliability of the bus services that transport over half our students to College means that we have made the difficult decision to close again today, Wednesday 8th January. Students will be expected to follow their normal timetables today with online learning provided by teachers. More information on this will follow shortly. We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and will keep families updated accordingly. Those students due to sit external exams will be contacted soon. St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School (Bingley)Full Closure

Notes : Due to challenging conditions on our site and surrounding pathways the difficult decision has been made to remain CLOSED today, Wednesday 8th January. A site inspection has taken place – all the path clearing completed over the past two days has been covered by snow again and is now dangerously icy and the paths around school remain untreated and therefore treacherous to walk on. Overnight temperatures have meant that all the hard work has been undone and the site and surrounding areas are unsafe to walk on. We understand that the school remaining closed is a huge challenge for families, but please understand that safety has to be our priority. Some home learning will be sent home for the children to complete. Information will be posted by staff on the class website pages and via Marvellous Me or Tapestry. Thank you for your understanding and patience, we are trying our best to open school but the weather is very much against us!?

Notes : After assessing the site and surrounding roads and pavements, it is unsafe to open the school due to ice and will therefore be closed on Wednesday 8th January. We have attempted to clear as much of the site today as possible and grit, but it is the condition of the surrounding roads and paths that are our concern. Saffron drive is currently a single track with deep snow and ice lining the road leaving nowhere to stop or park cars. Pedestrians are having to walk along the road and with 225 families and staff this is an accident waiting to happen. The sub-zero temperatures forecast tonight and all day tomorrow along with the weather warning mean that the situation is unlikely to improve. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience. We hope closing early will give you chance to plan for tomorrow. Online learning is available on our website on the class page section. Thanks again for your understanding.

St Walburga’s Catholic Primary SchoolPartial Closure

Notes : Our site supervisor has worked exceptionally hard to clear paths around school to make the site as safe as possible. However, it has since snowed again and re-covered all of the paths. The pavements and roads around school are more of a concern as they are exceptionally icy and treacherous to walk or drive on. We are aiming for a 10:30am start tomorrow with the additional time being for us to clear the paths again and to give staff and families more time to travel to school safely. However, we will do a site walk and carry out a risk assessment at 7:00am in the morning. We will endeavour to open if we possibly can and if it is safe do so; however at this point, with the recent snowfall and predicted overnight temperatures, this is looking unlikely. We will inform you of our decision by 7:30am tomorrow morning to give you as much notice as we can.. Both Breakfast Clubs are cancelled. If we are unable to open, teachers will plan online learning – more information will follow if this is required.

Notes : Following a site safety inspection undertaken this afternoon and considering the sub-zero temperatures forecast tonight and all day tomorrow we have made the difficult decision to remain closed tomorrow – Wednesday 8th January. This decision has been made to ensure the safety of students and staff. Year 13 students sitting examinations should attend the school as per the instructions already shared. Thornton Primary SchoolPartial Closure

Notes : Ice and snow causing treacherous conditions We have been hard at work today trying to make the school site safe. There isn’t anything we can do about paths external to our site unfortunately as it has taken all day to clear the school site. We have paid a contractor to clear the car park and he said he couldn’t do anything outside the school boundary so the path down from the main road is still very icy. We are extremely grateful to the site team who have worked extremely hard today. Staff can now potentially get to school safely so we will reassess in the morning and try to open from 10am. I am much more optimistic having had lots of clearing going on today. All children should enter school via the main entrance as there has not been enough time to clear a path around the whole site. The railway entrance will also remain closed at the KS2 end of school. However, safety must remain a priority and I would ask you to make your own decisions as parents about whether your journey to school can be made without putting yourselves and children at too much risk. There will be a further update in the morning but we remain optimistic about opening at 10am as long as more snow doesn’t fall overnight.

Wilsden Primary SchoolPartial Closure

Notes : Snow and ice making conditions unsafe. It’s been a challenging day and the challenges look set to remain! At Wilsden, the site is still unsafe. The site staff thought they would be able to clear around the school site but there is an added problem at Wilsden in that the car park is inaccessible and Tweedy Street is also difficult to navigate. We did find a tractor today with a plough on the front and they might be able to clear the car park in the morning, so it is with regret that once again, we will have to delay our opening until 10.30am. Children should be able to log onto Teams and join a live session in the morning so they can touch base with their teachers. We will update as soon as possible in the morning with any further updates and our priority is still to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our families and staff.
