Cleaning the shower screen is probably at the bottom of everyone’s to-do list because it’s generally a tough task to tackle. However, experts have been sharing an insight into how hotel cleaners achieve a ‘flawless’ looking shower screen ‘in seconds’.
It’s a build-up of limescale that causes the problem. Limescale comes from the minerals and metals in water such as fluoride, magnesium and calcium combined with soap and it leaves a dirty-looking residue on shower doors, tiles, taps and sinks.
Hard water areas tend to have a higher concentration of minerals and metals in the water. There’s a natural way to clean limescale and you don’t have to use white vinegar, which can have a bit of a pungent smell.

They claim that the secret natural ingredient is a ‘melamine sponge’ also known as a Magic Cleaning Sponge Eraser. You can buy a pack of 10 from Amazon. And they are currently on offer, reduced from £6.99 to just £4.98.
More than 6,000 people have bought the packs in the last month, making them Amazon’s Choice for cleaning shower glass. They get an overall 4.3 star rating from more than 2,000 reviews. One happy customer said: “These are great. I clean the shower cubicle glass and tiles, kitchen cupboards, marks on trainers, all sorts of stuff. Much as I despise any form of housework these eraser thingies certainly help make the jobs a bit less tedious. You can’t be too rough with them though as they’ll break, but then I suppose a smaller piece will get into corners easier.”
Another added: “These really are magic. Do genuinely work with just some warm water.” and a third agreed: “Amazing on glass. Clears away algae with ease.”
However, one said they didn’t last long: “This multipack does exhibit good value just because of the quantity. However, they are really a use once and then discard item. Admittedly, I have used these for some pretty gruesome cleaning tasks on paintwork but I did find they break down pretty quickly and need to be discarded.”
Amazon describes the sponges as follows: “There is no need for cleaning agents during use, just water, and the super cleaning ability of the cleaning sponge makes the surface of the object cleaner and more beautiful. A gentle and effective cleaning method. Just dampen the cleaning sponge with water, squeeze and wipe the sponge, and the eraser will do the job. It’s that simple.
“One-way wiping can effectively extend the life of the melamine sponge. Our white eraser can be used to wipe off marker stains, mud stains, oil stains, coffee stains and even rust stains. Can be used anywhere in the kitchen, bathroom, door, wall, floor, bathroom, glass, shower enclosure, faucet, bathtub, furniture, sneakers, baseboard, car, toilet, sink.”
