A man has been arrested after an alleged attack on a fan after Manchester City’s trip to Liverpool. The Blues travelled to Anfield to take on the league leaders earlier this month.
After the game, on Sunday December, 1, the police helicopter witnessed a man being punched by another man on Arkes Lane, close to the ground, Merseyside Police said.
“The suspect was reported to have then boarded a white-coloured supporters coach called Bullocks Coaches which was parked nearby” the force said.
Officers attended and provided first aid to a man, aged 54, who was then taken to hospital for treatment for a head injury described by police as ‘serious.’
A 21 year-old man from Halifax, West Yorkshire. was arrested that evening on suspicion of assault. However officers on Merseyside say that ‘investigation continues into the circumstances of what took place.’ They are urging any witnesses or anyone with footage which may be assist, to come forward.

Robert Jones, Operational football officer at the force, said: “The victim, a 54-year-old man, was left shocked and seriously injured by this attack and we are urging anyone with information to help us with our enquiries.
“While we have arrested a man, we are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Arkles Lane and Priory Road at the time to contact us with any information which will assist in the investigation.
“I urge those with CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam to please check your footage to see if there is anything that can help identify the suspect and bring him to justice.”
