Bank of Dave millionaire only leaving 10% of fortune to family for simple reason

The real-life Bank of Dave is giving away his fortune after death for a very simple reason.

Self-made millionaire Dave Fishwick made his money selling minibuses before setting up his own community bank (Burnley Savings and Loans) after the 2008 financial crisis. Two years ago, he captured the hearts of the nation when Netflix released the Bank of Dave biopic where he was played by James Bond star Rory Kinnear.

The Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger sequel is released today on Netflix, and Dave spoke to Lancashire Live about how the movies have been “life-changing”.

But given the success, we asked the Burnley-based businessman why he wasn’t spending his days enjoying the fruits of his labour.

He told us: “One of my children is a front line police officer and the other one works with animals and I have two grandchildren, two little boys.

“Myself and Nicky (his wife) and my family have all the money we need. We are going to give 90% plus of it away. I am a big believer in letting children have enough to do anything but not too much to do nothing.”

And taking aim at other rich folk, he continued: “A lot of people with money seem to climb up a tree and then pull the ladder up and they are frightened to death of anybody knowing anything and it is bonkers.

“If you live in a big house, you’ve got the cars, aircraft, and I’ve been in every direction you could possibly think about in the world and most of the time it is working.

“I have done all the things I need to do, you can only wear one shirt at once, you can only wear one pair of paints at once, you can only watch one telly, and if you’ve got a decent telly and you’ve got a decent mattress to lie on and you’ve got a home with a roof over your head, then it’s pretty much love for something else then.”

For Dave, his love is helping working class people and using his television documentaries and films to tackle what he described as the “baddies”.

And that is the theme of his upcoming movie, which sees Kinnear portray Dave once again in a “truish” tale about him taking on payday loan companies after realising people were being charged up to 5,000% interest.
